Founder of Applied Animal Insights, working with animal control and animal welfare agencies on the operational realities of running a public-facing animal services organization.
For 25 years, Jason has worked inside the realities that animal services agencies face every day — under-resourced teams, aging processes, and the constant tension between public expectation and operational capacity. That work has spanned nonprofit, for-profit, and government settings, giving him a working knowledge of how each is structured, funded, and held accountable, and what it actually takes to move them forward.
Jason has served as an Operations Director, Assistant Director and Executive Director at some of the largest animal shelters in the United States, overseeing daily operations, staff supervision, and regulatory compliance for organizations each handling tens of thousands of intakes each year. Earlier in his career, he served as Director of Operations for one of the largest intake shelters in the United States, and as Executive Director of a nonprofit humane society — leading the full scope of strategy, budget, staffing, and public accountability for an organization serving its community day in and day out.
Across more than a decade as a consultant, Jason has worked directly with over 300 animal welfare and animal control agencies across North America — auditing operations, designing onboarding and training programs, and building the reporting infrastructure agencies use to track what's actually happening inside their own organizations. That work has included structured multi-day onsite engagements, ongoing advisory relationships lasting years, and frequent speaking engagements at national industry conferences on data-driven operations and organizational change.
He is CAWA certified, holds an MBA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois. Jason served in the United States Marine Corps for five years, including a tour on Presidential Support Duty. Before moving into operations and consulting, he worked hands-on in animal welfare as a veterinary technician and a state-certified cruelty investigator.
